Told You They Were Falling Fast

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
Mercifully, Natalie Hof is still in the field
Mercifully, Natalie Hof is still in the field

We've counted at least 53 players eliminated during this level. That's more than 10% of our starting field, and probably closer to 15% of the players who were still around at the beginning of Level 6.

Probably best to just leave it at that.

Veldhuis Chips Up

Action folded to the cutoff seat and he put in an opening raise to 1,025. Team PokerStars Pro Lex Veldhuis was on the button and three-bet to 2,500. The two blinds folded before the cutoff seat called.

After the flop produced the {J-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{4-Clubs}, the cutoff seat check-called a bet of 3,200 from Veldhuis. That brought the two players to the {2-Spades} turn card. The cutoff checked again and Veldhuis slid out 6,000. His opponent gave it up and Veldhuis won the pot to chip up a little bit.

The Haves and the Have-Nots

Johannes Strassmann
Johannes Strassmann

It's a bit easier to play a postflop pot with 100,000+ than it is with 13,000. That lesson was just presented to Team PokerStars Pro Johannes Strassmann a moment ago in a angle with Anton Wigg.

We only caught up on the turn, but we can infer that Strassmann was the preflop raiser, and it looks like the flop went check-check. In any event, we joined as the board showed {Q-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {8-Spades} {2-Hearts} with 2,650 in the pot. From the big blind, Wigg led out with 1,750 from his big stack, and Strassmann's quick call left him with just about 10,000 in front of him.

On the {A-Clubs} river, Wigg fired out with a bet of 4,250. It leveraged Strassmann into a corner, and he'd spend the next few minutes agonizing over the decision for nearly half his chips. Finally, he reluctantly picked up his cards and dropped them a few inches forward, face-down.

As Wigg collected the pot, a smirking Strassmann tried to draw some information, but the Swede just quietly stacked up with a slight nod.

From what we hear, Wigg was responsible for the elimination of Praz Bansi not too long ago, and he's our big stack right now with more than 130,000.

A Number!

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Finally, the numbers are in.

Today's Day 1b flight drew 488 players to the felt, and we've smashed the previous record for this EPT Prague Main Event. The combined starting field grew to a whopping 722 before the window closed, and the tables are breaking quickly so far today.

We'll post the prize pool information as soon as we have it.

Heinz Squeezed, Vinklarek Eliminated

Pius Heinz
Pius Heinz

First in from late position, Dominik Nitsche opened to 1,000, and Ondrej Vinklarek three-bet shoved for 6,075. Over in the small blind, Pius Heinz like the two cards he looked down at, and he reraised all in for about 35,000 total. Nitsche made the call for his own tournament life, and Heinz had a chance at the double knockout as the cards were turned up.

Showdown
Nitsche: {J-Clubs} {J-Hearts}
Vinklarek: {4-Spades} {4-Hearts}
Heinz: {10-Clubs} {10-Hearts}

Nitsche had very much the best of it, and his jacks would hold strong. The board ran out {5-Clubs} {3-Hearts} {8-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} {Q-Hearts}, and that's the end of the road for Vinklarek. Heinz is down under 10,000 after that loss, and Nitsche now finds himself with close to 100bb again.

Gromov Flops Straight on Pahuja

From early position, Vinny Pahuja raised to 900. Dmitry Gromov made the call from the next seat and Tomas Elexhauser called from late-middle position. Everyone else folded and the flop came down {4-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{2-Spades}. Pahuja's continuation bet was worth 1,875 and only Gromov made the call.

After the flop action, the turn brought the {A-Diamonds}. Pahuja checked to Gromov and he bet 3,500. Pahuja called.

The river was the {8-Hearts} and Pahuja checked again. Gromov upped his bet and wagered 6,075. Pahuja tanked for a minute and then called.

Gromov tabled the {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for a flopped straight and Pahuja mucked his hand.
