Katchalov's Underpair

Level 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

We didn't see much of this pot, only walking up to the turn of a {4-Spades} {J-Spades} {10-Diamonds} {2-Diamonds} board. There was at least 50,000 piled in the middle of the table, though, and Eugene Katchalov made one of the larger bets we've seen today, 27,000 straight. He was heads-up with Timothy Marsters, and the latter would go on to spend the next several minutes agonizing in the tank.

"I'll ask the standard question," he spoke at one point. "Will you show if I fold?" Katchalov didn't respond, and Marsters continued his soak for a few more minutes. Finally, he uncapped his cards, shuffled the {K-Diamonds} {K-Spades} in between his hands, and finally dropped them onto the table, mucking them face-up.

There were a few hushed reactions of surprise at the table, and slowly, a wry smile appeared on the face of the Ukrainian. At the coaxing of the table, he finally flashed his own {5-Diamonds} {5-Spades}, his underpair good enough to take the pot.

With it comes another big chip increase, and this one vaults Katchalov into a dead heat for the overall lead with about 170,000. There or thereabouts.
