Battle of the Hats
Erik van den Berg opened for 32,000 in the cutoff and Fabrizio "Mad Italian" Ascari - who we reckon had a pretty heavy night last night, as he has been almost spookily quiet so far today - flat-called in the big blind. They saw a flop.
Flop:
Ascari and his baseball cap checked, van den Berg and his orange bobble hat bet 43,000, Ascari caled again, and they were at the turn.
Turn:
This time both players checked. River time.
River:
Ascari instantly announced all in, and after a moment he pushed his stack across the line. Van den Berg looked as though he wasn't really seriously considering it at any point, and folded in a matter of seconds.
Ascari - 500,000
Van den Berg - 450,000
By the by, there are only three hats remaining in this tournament, and curiously they are all at the same table - in addition to Ascari and van den Berg, Guillermo Garcia and his straw trilby are also seated there. Also, their table features the single largest pair of headphones in this tournament in the possession of Martin Jacobson - his white Beats by Dre are probably large enough to pass for a hat in some cultures.
