Deadly Coimbra
Brandon Cantu is not the only overnight big stacks who has been having a good day - although there are, of course, various degrees of doing well.
Andre Coimbra of PokerStars Team Online was in second place this morning on 476,400, and he must have had an excellent start as when we found him losing this intriguing hand, it left him with 495,000.
There was around 25,000 in the pot when we found Guillermo Garcia (big blind) betting out 13,000 only for Coimbra to min-raise to 26,000. Back to Garcia, who promptly made it 44,000, and after a while Coimbra folded, bumping up Garcia's stack to 240,000.
Nevertheless, the friendly Portuguese pro is still in great shape and we wouldn't be surprised if he goes very deep in this one. Like many young online pros, Coimbra came to poker through Magic: the Gathering - he was World Champion in 2009 - and once he'd made the switch to poker he picked it up fast, becoming the first Portuguese player to reach Supernova Elite status on PokerStars. At the moment his live results are sparse to say the least - but his single live cash was a good one, finishing in 311th place at this year's WSOP Main Event. This week he is firmly establishing himself as a force to be reckoned with on the live circuit, and if he manages to make it all the way he will find that he has a lot of support from Portuguese and foreign sources alike.
