A Surprising Double Up for Mattern

Team PokerStars Pro Arnaud Mattern has been on the short stack, but recently doubled up and was "surprised" to do so, his word.

A player in early position min-raised to 400 and was called by hijack, cutoff, and button seat players. Mattern shipped it in from the big blind for 3,750 and his lone caller was the original min-raiser.

She tabled {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds} and was up against Mattern's {K-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}. The flop came down an interesting {Q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and kept things pretty even. The {J-Hearts} turn made a straight for Mattern and he dodged many outs on the river when the {2-Clubs} fell. Mattern, who had been getting a massage, got out of his chair to pay the masseuse and the dealer mistakenly thought that Mattern believed he had been eliminated.

"You won," said the dealer. Mattern replied, "Oh I know. It's very surprising. It happens once in a blue moon." He's still short, but at a more comfortable 9,000.
