Pairs A'plenty

Jan Skampa

Dario Minieri opened the pot to 2,200 from early position. Next door, Bahram Beleiverdi made the call, as did Martin Sjelle a few seats further down the line. On the button, Jan Skampa double-checked his cards and moved all in for a rather meager 14,700 total. Minieri asked for a count before folding, but Beleiverdi quickly announced an all in of his own. Sjelle slouched in his chair and shook his head before folding, putting Skampa heads up for his tournament life.

Showdown
Beleiverdi: {7-Diamonds} {7-Spades}
Skampa: {Q-Hearts} {Q-Spades}

In a bit of stating the obvious, Beleiverdi said, "I thought you had something." Sjelle told the table he folded pocket jacks, and they all seemed a bit surprised. In any event, time to run a board to see if Skampa can stay: {6-Clubs} {5-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {J-Clubs}. Yep, he can stay, and he'll stick around with more than twice as many chips as he had before the hand.

The debate about Sjelle's supposed pocket jacks fired up again once the river card fell. It started with Johnny Lodden indignantly asking, "You folded pocket jacks?!"

Sjelle: "He said all in too," pointing at Beleiverdi.

Lodden: "I know. Beautiful spot!" (smirking)

Dario Minieri chimed in too. "You didn't fold pocket jacks, did you?!" Sjelle nodded slowly while Dario continued. "I mean, I think you would fold pocket jacks. But I don't think you did."
