Mattsson Pressing

Stefan Mattsson is doing his best to end this thing early. He has all of these new chips, and he's so far showing that he's not afraid to use them.

A few hands ago, Skampa opened in the cutoff to 120,000. From the big blind, Mattsson three-bet to 330,000, and Skampa called. The flop brought {3-Hearts} {K-Clubs} {10-Clubs}, and Mattsson's continuation bet of 440,000 was good enough to earn him the pot.

Just a couple hands later, it was Anthony Roux opening to 120,000. Mattsson three-bet it again, making it 290,000 this time. Roux called, and the flop came down {9-Spades} {3-Clubs} {4-Diamonds}, and Roux would fold to a bet of 290,000.

Larry Ryan Eliminated in 5th Place (€135,000)

Larry Ryan - 5th Place
Larry Ryan - 5th Place
Next hand, it folded around to Stefan Mattsson (by now chip leader) in the small blind. He raised. Larry Ryan in the big blind reraised. Mattsson announced all in. Ryan announced call.

Maybe we need a new dealer or something, because this one's a particularly nasty blind-on-blind cooler.

Ryan: {J-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}
Mattsson: {A-Clubs} {A-Diamonds}

Board: {K-Spades} {8-Spades} {6-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {3-Spades}

Thus Ryan becomes our 5th place finisher, and after less than an hour and a half, we are four-handed, Stefan Mattsson holding over 9 million of the 17.5 million chips in play.

Luca Pagano Eliminated in 6th Place (€100,000)

Luca Pagano - 6th Place
Luca Pagano - 6th Place
Luca Pagano made it 125,000 from the button, and, via a fold from small blind Anthony Roux, the action moved over to Stefan Mattsson in the big blind who reraised to 320,000. Pagano announced all in. Mattsson announced call. Showdown.

Pagano: {A-Clubs} {J-Diamonds}
Mattsson: {Q-Clubs} {Q-Hearts}

Board: {6-Diamonds} {K-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds} {6-Clubs}

Thus Pagano will have to settle for 6th place. Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.

Roux Not Buying It

A preflop raise to 125,000 came from Anthony Roux, and Jan Skampa called from the small blind to see a flop of {K-Clubs} {5-Hearts} {3-Hearts}. Both men would check, and they would do the same when the {7-Clubs} hit the turn. Fifth street came the {5-Spades}, and Skampa led out with a bet of 170,000. After a few minutes, Roux called.

Skampa turned over {8-Spades} {9-Spades}, and Roux flipped over {A-Diamonds} {J-Spades} for the winning ace-high. Nice call, sir.

Paying Pagano

Luca Pagano
Luca Pagano
Luca Pagano made it 120,000 to play, and both Anthony Roux and Larry Ryan came along to the flop. It brought {6-Diamonds} {5-Hearts} {8-Spades}, and Ryan checked from his small blind. Pagano continued out with 275,000 chips, and Roux was the only one who wanted to continue in the hand.

Heads up now, the {10-Clubs} dropped on the turn, and Pagano took his pause. After about a minute, he gathered a bet of 425,000 and fired once again. This time it did the trick; Roux mucked, and the Italian takes the pot.

Skampa Taken to Valuetown

Jan Skampa open-raised to 120,000 under the gun, and he found action from Larry Ryan who called from the big blind.

The flop came suited with {3-Spades} {5-Spades} {K-Spades}. Ryan checked and called after Skampa continued out with a bet of 165,000. Fourth street brought the {2-Spades} and checks from both men, and the {7-Clubs} filled out the board on the river. Ryan now took control with a bet of 245,000. Skampa thought it over for a couple minutes before sticking in the call.

Ryan tabled {A-Clubs} {7-Spades} for the small flush, and Skampa promptly mucked his cards.

Skampa Extends Lead at Roux's Expense

Also just before the break, Jan Skampa raised to 100,000 and got looked up by Anthony Roux on the button. The press closed in.

Roux checked the {10-Clubs} {9-Diamonds} {2-Hearts} flop, and then called 140,000 from Skampa. Come the {8-Hearts} turn Roux bet out to the tune of 300,000, and once Skampa had called, they proceeded to the river.

The river was the {10-Hearts} and now Roux checked again. Skampa stared long and hard at the felt, and then bet 650,000. Roux had folded before the chips were even across the line, and Skampa moves on up to over 4.5 million.

Gustav Ekerot Eliminated in 7th Place (€71,000)

Gustav Ekerot - 7th Place
Gustav Ekerot - 7th Place
Gustav Ekerot shoved from the cutoff...

...And he can't have felt great about it once Eyal Avitan re-shoved from the small blind.

Luca Pagano in the big blind made a cursory check for aces in his hand which he didn't have, as most of the aces were in Avitan's hand. Pagano folded. On their backs.

Avitan: {A-Hearts} {A-Spades}
Ekerot: {Q-Hearts} {7-Hearts}

Board: {4-Spades} {5-Spades} {4-Hearts} {4-Clubs} {10-Clubs}

And then there were six.
