Final Day of EAPT Madrid Main Event Kicks Off at 2:00 p.m. Local Time

EAPT Trophy
EAPT Trophy

After four days that included five starting flights the final day of the EAPT Madrid €560 Main Event is set to begin in just a few short hours at the Casino Gran Via. Only nine players remain from a field of 305 entrants and all nine will have the shared goal of claiming the top prize of €35,475.

Fernando Celdran enters the final table with a massive lead over the rest of the field. His stack of 3,710,000 is worth more than triple that of any of his opponents except his nearest competitor Marius Moldoveanu who will be entering the final table with 2,655,000. The other seven players will have their work cut out for them as Celdran and Moldoveanu hold just over half the total chips in play between the two of them.

Ionut Dragomir opened to 55,000 from the hijack and Kai Fuong three-bet to 175,000 from the small blind. Dragomir made the call.

The flop came KQJ and Fuong moved all in for just over 700,000. Dragomir made the call with a slightly covering stack to put Fuong at risk.

Kai Fuong: AK
Ionut Dragomir: A8

Fuong was ahead with top pair but still had to fade Dragomir's nut-flush draw. The 9 turn was a brick but the 10 river brought the flush in to give Dragomir a full double up while Fuong became the first final table casualty.

Puntas Puts Akremi in the Blender

Level 22 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Antonio Puntas
Antonio Puntas

Chadi Akremi limped in from the hijack and Antonio Puntas raised to 110,000 from the button. Akremi three-bet to 325,000 and Puntas made the call.

The flop came 742 and Akremi fired a 275,000 continuation bet that was called by Puntas.

Both players checked the 6 turn leading to the 3 river. Akremi checked and Puntas bet 500,000, sending Akremi deep into the tank.

"You have three hands" Akremi commented as he weighed his options, cutting out calling chips to see how much he would have should he call and be wrong.

"There's a lot of chips in there..." Akremi continued, clearly put on a difficult decision. "Might have kings or queens".

Finally Akremi stuck in the call, leaving only 205,000 behind. Puntas showed QQ and scooped in a gargantuan pot after Akremi's hand hit the muck.

Fernando Celdran opened to 85,000 from early position and received a call from Marius Moldoveanu in the hijack before Chadi Akremi moved all in for 205,000 from the small blind. Celdran made the call before Moldoveanu moved all in for over 3,000,000, covering Celdran. Celdran got out of the way leaving Akremi at risk against Moldoveanu.

Chadi Akremi: AQ
Marius Moldoveanu: AA

"Story of my life" Akremi commented upon seeing his opponent had pocket aces. Akremi was unable to pull ahead on the KK943 runout and was sent to the rail in seventh-place while Moldoveanu continued to extend his lead over Celdran and the rest of the field.

Javier Romero: 66
Antonio Puntas: 1010

Romero needed some help against the bigger pocket pair and failed to connect with the 9K8210 runout. Puntas collected another healthy pot while Romero's deep run came to an end in sixth-place.

Dragomir Doubles with Quads

Marius Moldoveanu and Ionut Dragomir
Marius Moldoveanu and Ionut Dragomir

Marius Moldoveanu moved all in from the small blind, covering Ionut Dragomir in the big blind who had 1,550,000. Dragomir snap-called and was at risk.

Ionut Dragomir: QQ
Marius Moldoveanu: AK

It was a classic preflop flip that Dragomir pulled way ahead of on the Q2J flop. Moldoveanu still had a gutshot straight draw but but the A turn changed nothing. The Q river improved Dragomir to four of a king to secure a full double up through Moldoveanu.

Ionut Dragomir
Ionut Dragomir

Ionut Dragomir limped in from the small blind and Antonio Puntas checked from the big blind.

The flop came K73. Dragomir bet 225,000 and was called by Puntas.

Dragomir fired a second barrel on the J turn, this time for 550,000. Once again Puntas made the call.

The river was the Q. Dragomir moved all in for 1,760,000 and Puntas, who covered Dragomir slightly, went deep into the tank. After a few minutes he stuck in the call.

"Good call" Dragomir said, revealing 74 for a pair of sevens turned into a bluff. Puntas tabled K10 for a pair of kings to score the knockout and collect a massive pot.

Level 30 : Blinds 100,000/200,000, 200,000 ante
Marius Moldoveanu
Marius Moldoveanu

The very next hand after Ionut Dragomir was eliminated, Marius Moldoveanu was all in and at risk preflop against Fernado Celdran who covered.

Marius Moldoveanu: A4
Fernando Celdran: AK

Moldoveanu was dominated by a bigger ace but the 852 flop gave him a few more outs in the form of a gutshot straight draw. The A turn and 7 river were bricks and Moldoveanu's deep run came to an end in third place.

The tournament is briefly being paused to set up heads-up play between Celdran and Antonio Puntas.
