$2,200 EAPT Grand Final

Day 1b Started

Welcome to Day 1b of $2,200 EAPT Grand Final

Aleksandr Kirichenko
Aleksandr Kirichenko

Day 1b of the 2024 Eurasion Poker Tour (EAPT) $2,200 Grand Final is set to kick off today at noon local time here at the Royal Diamond Hotel and Spa. Ukraine's Alina Kiryna leads the way from the first starting flight, finishing day 1a with an impressive 3,530,000 chips. A new group of contenders will try to replicate that success in today's Day 1b flight.

Also in the mix is Aleksandr Kirichenko, who registered late in Day 1a immediately after busting the $1,100 Mystery Bounty where he managed to pull the $70,000 top bounty prize. Just a few hours later, Kirichenko ended the night with a top five stack in the Grand Final. Only time will tell if another deep run in Cyprus is in the cards for the Russian crusher.

Day 1b will feature the same structure as yesterday's Day 1a. Players will start with 200,000 chips and play 15 40-minute levels. There will be a break after every three levels. Unlimited reentries and late registration will be available until the end of Level 10.

Those who bag and tag at the end of the night will join the survivors from yesterday's flight in advancing to Day 2 on March 24. Before that, there will be two more starting flights, with Day 1c beginning at noon local time on May 06 and a turbo Day 1d, featuring 20-minute levels, set to begin at 9:00 p.m. the same day.

Day 1a attracted a total of 380 entrants vying to take home the title and lion's share of the $2,000,000 guaranteed prize pool. That number is expected to grow substantially starting today, with three more starting flights left to go. As always, stay tuned to PokerNews as we bring you all the updates for this event from the moment cards are in the air until a winner is crowned on May 08.

Kovalenko Takes a Big One Early

Level 1 : Blinds 1,000/1,000, 1,000 ante
Pavel Kovalenko
Pavel Kovalenko

A player from under the gun limped in before Tobias Peters raised to 4,000 from middle position, receiving calls from Pavel Kovalenko on the button and the original limper.

The flop came A77. The limper checked, Peters bet 3,000 and Kovalenko called. The limper then clicked it back to 6,000 and received a call from both opponents.

On the 9 turn the limper bet 12,000, forcing a fold from Peters while Kovalenko made the call.

The limper bet another 12,000 on the 4 turn only for Kovalenko to put in a big raise to 79,000. The limper called and showed A9 for two pair but Kovalenko tabled 107 for trip sevens to drag in a pot worth over 200 big blinds.

Peters Hits the Rail

Level 2 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante

Tobias Peters

Tobias Peters was left with just 3,000 from an earlier hand (According to his tablemates, he got the chips in with Qx10x on a board of Jx10x6x4x2x only to run into Mark Helou's KxKx) and moved all in from under the gun. Stepan Mikhno raised to 6,500 from the hijack and was called by Pavel Kovalenko in the cutoff.

"No bounty, why call?" Mikhno joked with Kovalenko before the 958 flop was dealt. Mikhno check-called a 10,500 bet from Kovalenko.

Kovalenko bet again for 33,000 when checked to on the 2 turn and this time it was enough to force a fold from Mikhno leaving Peters at risk.

Pavel Kovalenko: JJ

Peters had flopped top pair but was in rough shape against Kovalenko's overpair. He found no further help on the K river and was sent to the rail courtesy of Kovalenko who continued to add chips to his stack.
