Welcome to the DraftKings $2.5 Million King of the Beach Tournament!
The $2.5 million day has arrived. After three days of fun at the beautiful Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, DraftKings King of the Beach qualifiers are setting their lineups this morning in hopes of becoming the newest $1 million winner in daily fantasy football.
The DraftKings King of the Beach tournament will take place at the Aura Nightclub in Atlantis today beginning at 1 p.m. ET. Over past few months, DraftKings hosted 50 qualifiers for a seat into this event, with each package worth $54,000. The event ticket itself is worth $50,000, meaning a total of $2.5 million will be awarded here in Paradise Island when the games conclude this evening.
Some of the qualifiers won their ticket to this event for as little as $2 and could parlay that small buy-in into $1 million today!
Each participant will select a team of nine NFL players from today's games using a fixed salary cap of $50,000 set by DraftKings. The selection process involves a wide range of variables, including matchups, recent player performance and weather. Many of the same players will be selected, but it is highly unlikely that we'll see any duplicate lineups today.
Once the lineups are set and the games begin, points are assigned to individual statistics (i.e. passing yards, passing touchdowns, rushing yards, ect.) and the winner is determined by the contestant that accrues the most points with their nine-player roster.
While most of the contestants in today's event will be setting one lineup, a handful of players will have multiple entries which allows them to be more creative in their lineup building. One of those players is DraftKings Pro Peter "CSURAM88" Jennings, the winner of the DraftKings Fantasy Baseball Championship here at Atlantis in August. Jennings used one of his three entries in the baseball event to claim his first $1 million payday, and he'll look to replicate that performance with his three separate entries today.
Fellow DraftKings Pro Al "Al_Smizzle" Zeidenfeld will have two entries today, and he was kind enough to give us a sneak-peek at his lineup this morning. We'll be posting a video this afternoon with Al revealing his team and why he selected certain players — stay tuned for that!
Everyone will go home with at least $7,500 tonight, but of course the biggest check — worth $1 million — will be handed to the winner. PokerNews will be at Aura for complete coverage of the event, so keep your browsers locked here all evening!
