Dea Makes the Right Call

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante

Steve Patch raised to 15,000 from under the gun and Andrew Dea three-bet him from his direct left. Action folded back to Patch and he called, bringing the flop {7-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{9-Spades}. Patch then went all in for 78,500.

Dea went into the tank for about a minute, debating whether he was more likely to be doing that with an overpair-type hand such as jacks, or two unpaired cards such as ace-queen. He decided to look up Patch, putting forward a stack of chips to call.

"Good call," said Patch as he turned over {j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

Dea tabled {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}.

Dea's call with ace high left him in front, needing to fade pair outs as well as the four eights in the deck that would give Patch the nut straight. The turn came {9-Spades}, leaving Patch down to one card, which fell {2-Hearts} and left him with zero chips.

With Patch's bust out, 40 players remain. The tournament will get into the money after four more eliminations.
