Day 4 of the Borgata Winter Poker Open WPT Main Event In the Books, Six-Handed TV Table Set
After four days of intense action on the felt a stacked field of 1,229 runners was whittled to just 36, and today that number was pared down to form one of the most exciting spectacles in the game: a World Poker Tour televised final table.
The showdown to decide six of the most coveted seats in the Borgata began at high noon, and soon after that the bloodletting began. Players joined the battle in earnest, trying desperately to escape the onslaught of escalating blinds and antes, and by the second level of the day players were busting seemingly every few hands.
Dangerous professionals fell by the wayside along the way, including Chad Brown (26th), Faraz Jaka (22nd), Byron Kaverman (21st), Ronit Chamani (13th) and Chris Reslock (10th).
Along the way, a few floor decisions were necessary - first to correct Farid Jattin's raising action when players were unsure if he was calling or not - and again when a dealer's miscalled raise amount confused Bryan Choi into putting the wrong amount of chips in the middle. Despite those bumps in the road though, the path to the six-handed TV final table was rather smooth, and within 12 hours the 36 survivors had been whittled down to seven, with each sweating a truly life-changing bubble.
Unfortunately for Kunal Patel, he would be the one left outside looking in, as he fell in 7th place to end the night along with his deep run.
After Patel made his exit, the tournament area broke out in raucous applause and celebration, as the six remaining players hugged and shook hands, exchanged details with their friends on the rail, and simply soaked in the moment.
