Maurice Hawkins Here on Day 1a of the Borgata Winter Poker Open WPT Main Event

We caught up with young pro Maurice "Mo" Hawkins recently after noticing him drag a pot to eliminate a short-stacked player.

Hawkins - who represented his generation in a clash of old-school versus new this summer at the World Series of Poker - was a bit below the starting stack before the win, so he is now back to just above even early on this first day of play.

According to Hawkins, he played the {4-}{5-} and connected perfectly with the {k-}{7-}{3-}{6-} board by the turn. After making his straight, Hawkins snapped off the shorty's 4,000 all-in wager (the man held {K-}{J-}), and a decent pot was pushed his way.
