Steinlee Fades the River... Twice
We just watched Jim Steinlee sweat the result of fifth street...not once, but twice.
The board read by the river, and Steinlee's was displayed near his committed stack. A group of tournament officials hovered near the table, however, attempting to sort through a dealer error to decide whether the original river should stand.
Apparently, Steinlee had shoved all in on the turn, but the dealer had mistakenly produced a river card before his opponent announced an action. Both Steinlee and the other player were confused at that point, and he rolled over his set of ducks to show the winner.
The opponent held for top two pair, and despite seeing that he was beat he elected to call anyway after the floor ruled that the would be washed back into the deck before a new river was dealt. Despite knowing he would need to spike a four-out shot to catch up, Steinlee's opponent still wanted to gamble for the large pot.
The dealer did as instructed and reshuffled the remaining cards in the deck, before revealing the as the official river card. Steinlee's set held up - twice - and he was awarded the nealry 40,000-chip haul.
