Pada Bear

Level 14 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Andy Pada flopped a pair and a flush draw with his {5-Hearts}{7-Hearts} after the dealer fanned the {a-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{k-Hearts}. Soon enough, he got the last of his stack in the middle and found two willing opponents, each of whom held big aces in {A-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} and {a-Spades}{q-Clubs}.

Pada missed his flush on the turn, but the {5-Spades} was just as good, and to cap things off the river came {4-Hearts} to cinch his triple up.

Tommy Boy

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

We've found another massive chip stack worthy of coverage, as Tommy Flanagan now holds more than 4 times the current average with about 125 players left in the field.

"All skill," joked Flanagan as we sized up his stacks. "All me."

We'll see if Flanagan can continue the momentum as the night progresses, as there is still a long way to go in this one-day tournament.

Sergeant Slaughter

Level 13 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

We heard a loud shout a few tables over and headed over to take a look, and as is usually the case after such an outburst, a bad beat had just gone down.

A player who gave his name - but politely asked to remain anonymous due to his status as an active serviceman in the military (don't ask, don't tell lives on) - had just spiked his double gutter draw on the river. Here's what we saw:

The final board read {q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} and the unknown soldier had {6-Spades}{8-Spades} tabled near his soon to be doubled stack. His opponent held only {a-}{10-} for no pair, but until the river rained down he had been in the lead with ace-high. Fifth street dashed his hopes though, while the anonymous player now sits with about 45,000 to work with.

Vladislav Mezheritsky Back for More

Vladislav Mezheritsky
Vladislav Mezheritsky

When we last saw Vladislav Mezheritsky back at the Borgata Winter Poker Open in January, he was engaged to his fiancé Katherine and searching for that life-changing score every poker player dreams about.

After reaching the final table of that series World Poker Tour Main Event Championship, where he finished in 5th place for $213,650, Mezheritsky made one dream come true, and judging by the bling he's sporting on his ring finger here today, another dream was realized this month.

Mezheritsky married his sweetheart in April, and with Katherine upstairs sleeping at the moment, the Russian-born resident of Brooklyn, New York figured he'd "take a shot" in this event. With the season-ending WPT World Championship set to start in two days, Mezheritsky is looking to fine-tune his game in preparation for the big stage he knows so well.

From the look of his chip stack his game is still sharp though, as he currently sits with above the average midway through the day.
