Day 2 Highlights
Kelley Slay fell behind early, but he found a remarkable run when he picked up pocket aces in back-to-back hands to scoop up over 500,000 chips. Slay didn’t qualify for the final table, but the run was good enough for a 22nd place finish.
The eliminations were steady throughout the afternoon, but once the tournament reached its final two tables the knockouts picked up to a lightning pace. It started with Michael Scoma, who finished in 16th place when his pocket jacks ran into Payne's pocket aces. Brian Kent was right behind him in 15th place when his ace-jack couldn't improve against Payne's pocket tens.
Sheaves took out Bradley Beetz in 14th place when he made the nut flush to crack pocket kings. James Leonardfell in 13th when Leone's sixes held up against his suited king.
Leone continued his run by knocking out Austin Reilly in 12th place with a straight. Moments later, Caleb Owens was out in 11th when his pocket tens couldn't catch up to Payne's queens. Leone scored another knockout a few hands later when he made the better flush against 10th place finisher Johnny Landreth.
The players went on a brief break before returning to eliminate one more. It didn't take long for Ben Allen to get it all-in with kings, but Leone scored again when he made a set of eights on the flop and improved to quads on the river.
In all, the final two tables took about 50 minutes to play down to eight. The final eight players are guaranteed at least $17,673 and the winner will take home $140,058.
