Kagawa 1, Garza 0

Masaaki Kagawa Happy To Be Up 1-0!
Masaaki Kagawa Happy To Be Up 1-0!
All the chips were in pre-flop with Masaaki Kagawa holding {A-Hearts}{7-Hearts} but in trouble against the {A-Clubs}{8-Clubs} held by Jeff Garza.

The flop of {5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{K-Spades} was a good one for Kagawa as suddenly he had plenty of potential flush outs. One of them was the {J-Hearts} which hit on the turn to complete his flush. A meaningless {8-Hearts} on the river and Masaaki Kagawa takes a 1-0 lead over Jeff Garza!

Garza Fights Back, Kagawa Still Leads

Jeff Garza had been chipping away at Masaaki Kagawa and gained back the chip lead until the following hand.

Kagawa raised pre-flop and Garza decided to re-raise big. Kagawa didn't fall for it and re-raised for the last of his chips. Garza cringed and made a pot committed call.

Kagawa flipped {A-Spades}{Q-Spades} and Garza sheepishly turned over {9-Spades}{5-Hearts} as he is caught making a move.

The board ran out {K-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts} and Garza is left with 13,000 as Kagawa once again reclaims the lead!

Kagawa Leads Early

Jeff Garza gained the upper hand early, but Masaaki Kagawa has fought back to now hold the chip lead.

In a recent hand, Garza min-raised preflop and Kagawa made the call. The flop came {6-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{J-Clubs} and Kagawa led for 1,500. Garza thought for a moment before making the call. The turn brought the {9-Hearts} and Kagawa checked the action over to Garza who fired 3,000 into the middle. Kagawa then announced that he was all in. Although we didn't catch the suits, Garza flashed red A-K before tossing his cards into the muck.

Kagawa now holds around an 8,000 chip advantage.

Masaaki Kagawa and Jeff Garza are taking their seats as the final of the Heads Up Championship is about to commence!

One player will capture the trophy and the AU$100,000 first place prize!

Roy Winston Eliminated

With both players close to even chip stacks, the money went all in on the turn with the board reading {7-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}.

Roy Winston thought he was in front with his {K-Diamonds}{9-Clubs} for top pair and flush draw, but Kagawa had flopped the nut flush with the {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}. A {9-Hearts} on the river gave Winston a meaningless two pair as Masaaki Kagawa's flush is enough to win the pot and the match in a 2-1 result.

Roy Winston leaves with AU$40,000 in prize money.

The Decider!

After a ten-minute break Roy Winston and Masaaki Kagawa have just commenced their third and final heads up encounter to decide who will progress to the final to meet Jeff Garza and play for the AU$100,000 first place prize!

Winston Squares Semi At 1-1

Roy Winston limped from the small blind and Masaaki Kagawa raised it up an additional 400. Winston went all in and Kagawa made the call for his last 2,000.

Winston: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}
Kagawa: {J-Diamonds}{J-Clubs}

The flop was perfect for Winston as it came {Q-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} to give him a set and a commanding lead in the hand. The turn was a repeat {2-Hearts} to leave Kagawa drawing dead. The meaningless river was the {10-Clubs} and Roy Winston claims the win in the second match to level this tight semi final contest at 1-1!

Kagawa Survives

Roy Winston has been chipping up slowly against Masaaki Kagawa and they eventually found a hand to collide with.

Winston held {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds} and was racing against Kagawa's {K-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds}.

The flop of {K-Hearts}{4-Spades}{8-Spades} gave Kagawa the lead as Winston was left looking for a jack to square the series. The turn was the {9-Spades} which gave Winston more outs to a flush, however the river was the {7-Hearts} and Kagawa survives to double up to over 6,500 chips.
