Another for Kornuth

Level 22 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Igor Kurganov raised to 90,000 from the button, Chance Kornuth called, and then both players checked the {3-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{7-Clubs} flop. The {10-Spades} turn saw Kornuth bet what appeared to be 125,000, and Kurganov called. When the {3-Clubs} completed the board on the river, Kornuth bet 400,000 and Kurganov tossed in a chip to call.

Kornuth tabled the {10-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} and it was good as Kurganov mucked his hand.

Big Bet Poker

Level 22 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Igor Kurganov made it 90,000 to go and Chance Kornuth made the call. Kornuth checked called 55,000 on {5-Spades}{5-Clubs}{5-Hearts} and check called another 145,000 on the {10-Clubs} turn.

The river came the {9-Hearts} and Kornuth checked for the third time. Kurganov grabbed a single 25,000 chip from a big tower of chips, and then slid that tower forward - worth 475,000! Kornuth had a small smile on his face, and folded after about two minutes of thinking.

First Blood to Kornuth

Level 22 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

In the first somewhat significant hand of heads-up play, Chance Kornuth raised the button to 100,000 and Igor Kurganov called to see a {k-Hearts}{10-Spades}{6-Hearts} flop. Kurganov check-called a bet of 130,000 and then checked the {J-Diamonds} turn. Kornuth bet again, this time 325,000, and Kurganov snap-folded.

Jason Les Eliminated in 3rd Place (AU$351,360)

Level 22 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Jason Les
Jason Les

Igor Kurganov raised to 90,000 from the button and Chance Kornuth calmly called from the small blind. This made Jason Les add the needed chips as well and the three of them took a flop.

All three checked on {9-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and the {2-Diamonds} was seen for free. Kornuth bet out 150,000 and Les made the call, leaving himself about 410,000 behind. Igor Kurganov folded.

The {K-Hearts} fell on the river and Kornuth moved 700,000 forward, more than enough to put Les to the decision for all of his chips. Les frowned, and put a couple of 25,000 chips in to indicate he was calling.

Kornuth instantly showed {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds} for the rivered set, giving Les the bad news. Les mucked but the dealer turned over his {9-Hearts}{2-Hearts} anyway.

Jason Les takes home AU$351,360. Igor Kurganov (80 big blinds) and Chance Kornuth (73 big blinds) now head to head for the title. The winner takes home AU$790,560, the runner up gets AU$541,680.

Steve O'Dwyer Eliminated in 4th Place (AU$263,520)

Level 22 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Steve O'Dwyer - 4th Place
Steve O'Dwyer - 4th Place

Steve O'Dwyer, who just over a week ago won the 2016 PCA $50K Single-Day High Roller for $945,495, moved all in under the gun for his last 121,000 and Igor Kurganov three-bet to 252,000 from the button, which inspired both blinds to fold.

O'Dwyer: {k-Clubs}{q-Hearts}
Kurganov: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}

It was a bad spot for O'Dwyer, and the {5-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop didn't do him any favors. The {10-Diamonds} turn left him drawing dead, and his elimination became official when the {8-Hearts} was run out on the river for good measure.

Igor Kurganov Ain't Folding No Eights and Retakes the Lead

Level 21 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante

Igor Kurganov raised to 70,000 from first position and Chance Kornuth on the button, with two the two shortest stacks behind him, three-bet to 200,000. Les and O'Dwyer both folded and Kurganov made the call.

The flop came {A-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} and Kurganov check called a bet of 155,000. Both players checked on the {6-Diamonds} turn and {9-Diamonds} river and Kornuth showed the {5-Hearts}. Kurganov tabled {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} and Kornuth mucked his cards.

O'Dwyer Crippled

Level 21 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante

Steve O'Dwyer opened for 75,000 under the gun and Chance Kornuth called from the small blind. Jason Les came along from the big, and three players took a flop of {10-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. Kornuth led out for 100,000, Les folded, and O'Dwyer called to see the {5-Diamonds} turn.

Kornuth bet again, this time 225,000, and O'Dwyer called. When the {J-Spades} completed the board on the river, Kornuth slowed down with a check and O'Dwyer announced a bet of 430,000.

"Call," Kornuth snapped.

"Ace high," a defeated O'Dwyer admitted before showing the {a-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}. Kornuth then showed the {a-Spades}{10-Spades} for the win.

Kurganov Rivers Kornuth

Level 21 : 15,000/30,000, 4,000 ante

Igor Kurganov limped in from the small blind, and called Chance Kornuth's big blind raise. Kurganov check called a bet of 120,000 on {10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} and check called another 180,000 on the {9-Hearts} turn.

The river came the {7-Spades} and Igor tapped a single finger on the table to indicate he was checking. Kornuth was happy to check behind with his {Q-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}, but wasn't so excited when he saw he had been rivered by Kurganov's {A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}.
