Lam Tops Day 1c with Ivey Lurking
Day 1c of the 2012 Aussie Millions Main Event has come and gone. After a full seven levels of play and plenty of magnificent poker action, the field of 317 runners that came out for the final starting flight was cut down to under 150. Leading the way after bagging up 198,400 in chips was Robert Lam, but he's not the story of the day.
With most of the big guns waiting until the final starting day to get in on the action, Phil Ivey, Jason Mercier, Daniel Negreanu, Joe Hachem, Erik Seidel, Nam Le and Daniel Alaei were all in play. Ivey stormed out of the gates to the early chip lead and held onto the pole position for the better part of the day.
Once he got over 100,000 in chips, Ivey peaked around 175,000 before he began to bleed chips and drop back to about 85,000. From there, Ivey doubled in a massive clash with Australia's own Shane Warne and got right back to the top of the board. He went on to finish in what looks to be a top five stack on Day 1c with 184,000 in chips.
While Ivey thrived, Alaei, Hachem, Negreanu, Seidel and Le were all eliminated on the day and won't be going any further in this Main Event. Mercier had a rough day hanging around or below the starting stack of 30,000 for most of the time, but managed to win a good amount of chips with a diamond flush against Dan Smith before going on to finish with 61,600.
Other notables who bagged up some decent chips on Day 1c were Jason Koon, Michael Pedley, David Steicke, Melanie Weisner and Tino Lechich. They'll all be back here in Crown Casino's poker room on Wednesday starting at 12:30 PM local time to continue the quest. Registration will remain open until the first break tomorrow so even more players have the chance of hopping into the event. As it stands right now, the plan is to play six two-hour levels tomorrow, but that is all subject to change.
Leading the way with the overall chip lead into Day 2 is Brett Watson. He bagged up 257,400 on Day 1a.
