Demetriou Flops Monster

Harry Demetriou
Harry Demetriou
On a board of {2-Clubs}{10-Spades}{9-Clubs} Harry Demetriou moved all in for around 6,000 chips -- but he was not really all in as he'd left a green 25-denomination chip on his cards as a protector.

Liz Lieu was his opponent and pondered the call, but eventually declared "You have too many outs," before folding. She was right, as Demetriou flipped a monster with his {A-Clubs}{10-Clubs}!

Demetriou is sitting with 9,000 in chips.

Gill Flushes Another Opponent

Carter Gill = Chip Leader
Carter Gill = Chip Leader
Carter Gill has extended his chip lead after sending another opponent to the rail. The flop read {4-Spades}{5-Spades}{3-Spades} and after a series of raises, Gill was thrilled to get all the chips in the middle with {A-Spades}{6-Spades} for the nut flush, cracking the {Q-Clubs}{Q-Spades} of his disappointed opponent.

As the dealer appeared set to muck the cards, he was reminded that there were two more cards to be dealt. However there was no miracle as the {8-Hearts} on the turn and {Q-Hearts} on the river left Gill sitting with over 60,000 in chips!

Lieu Applying Pressure

Liz Lieu
Liz Lieu
Liz Lieu is continuing to apply pressure to her opponents post-flop to try and rebuild her stack.

In a recent pot, three players including Lieu and Johnny Chan took a flop of {6-Spades}{3-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. An early-position player led out for 1,925, forcing a fold from Chan before Lieu moved all in for an additional 7,675. Her opponent thought long and hard before letting it down, as Lieu recovered to about 14,000 in chips.

Joo Gets Away Cheaply

Ree Guh Joo limped in from early position, then called a raise to 1,200. He and his opponent took the {8-Clubs} {2-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} flop heads up. Joo checked it over to the preflop raiser, who bet 1,500. Joo made the call. His opponent got gun shy when a {K-Clubs} hit the turn; he checked behind after Joo checked. It was "second verse, same as the first" on the river {10-Spades}. Joo showed {7-Clubs} {8-Spades} for a pair of eights, but it was no good against his opponent's {J-Hearts} {J-Clubs}.

Joo lost 2,700 chips on the hand, dropping him to 15,400.

Julio Diaz Doubles

An early-position player raised it up to 1,150 before Julio Diaz made it 3,800 from the big blind. His opponent made the call and they took a flop of {7-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}.

Diaz moved all in for his last 11,625 and his opponent went into the tank before making a courageous call with {Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. It was the right call as Diaz flipped {A-Spades}{K-Hearts} for just overcards.

The turn was the {7-Diamonds} but a miraculous {K-Diamonds} on the river paired up Diaz to give him the pot as he now sits with 31,000 in chips.

Wong Loves the River

We approached Table 1 as a hand was in progress between Wah Cheong Wong and one opponent. Wong bet 900 on a board of {2-Hearts} {10-Diamonds} {3-Hearts} {J-Diamonds}. His opponent threw four yellow chips (T1,000) into the pot, each chip rolling crazily across the table. Wong went into the tank for about a minute, then called.

The river was the {8-Diamonds}. Wong bet 3,500. His opponent clearly didn't like the card, but called all the same. Wong showed {Q-Hearts} {9-Hearts} for a straight, better than his opponent's {J-Spades} {J-Clubs} for three jacks.

"I knew that's what you had," said Carter Gill after the pot was pushed to Wong. "I asked myself what could you call the turn with. Queen-hearts, nine-hearts. The river was a half blocker bet, half value bet."
