Lin Makes the Wrong Call for His Tournament Life

Level 5 : 200/400, 50 ante

Michael Kanaan opened for 1,000 only to have Kai Sheng Yang three-bet to 2,000 from the button. Ping Lin made the call from the big blind, Kanaan called the additional 1,000, and three players saw a flop of {6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{a-Hearts}.

Two checks saw Yang bet 3,500, Lin called, and Kanaan got out of the way. Both players then checked the {10-Diamonds} turn and the {8-Clubs} completed the board on the river. Lin checked for a third time, and that opened the door for Yang to move all in for 16,525.

Lin, who had 15,750 back, seemed tortured by the bet and thought for several minutes before a clock was called. After about 30 seconds, Lin called off his stack and his worst fears were realized. His {a-Spades}{q-Spades} was no good against the {9-Clubs}{q-Clubs} rivered straight of Yang.
