After a huge day of exciting poker, the 2012 Asia Pacific Poker Tour Cebu Main Event has now come to an end, with Hoang Anh Do proving too strong as he becomes the one and only champion. For that effort, Do pockets PHP 5,927,000 and all the glory to go along with it.

When the day started almost nine hours ago, there were nine players with stars in their eyes. Those stars would quickly turn to disappointment though as the players started hitting the rail one by one.

It was Antoine Amourette who started the day with only a few big blinds and while he hung on to life in dramatic fashion, eventually his day would come to an end in 9th place. He was followed out the door by Jae Kyung Sim in 8th place, before Jacky Wang hit the rail in 7th.

When Sameer Rattonsey exited in 6th place, he would leave his fellow countrymen Amit Varma to wave the flag for India. Varma started the day as the chip leader, but would slowly see his stack whittle down to a pittance of what he started the day with. Varma could no longer cling to life and would soon be sent home in 5th place.

Up until this point play was ticking along at an expected pace as Australia’s Michael Kanaan was still in contention to become only the third player ever to win both an ANZPT title and an APPT title. Unfortunately that dream would come to an in 4th place as Alistair Duff, Nicholas Wong and Do took to three-handed play.

This is when things started to slow right down. Play was reduced to a crawl as the three remaining players started trading chips. Eventually the exhilaration of the play picked up as both Do and Duff would find themselves all in at multiple times. Duff looked to be sent home at least three times, but kept clinging to life as he would keep surviving his all-in moments. After three hours of three-handed play, Duff would finally be sent home in 3rd place as we would take to heads-up play with the eventual champion holding an almost 3-1 chip lead.

Heads-Up wouldn’t last long as Do and Wong ramped up their aggression. The inevitable last hand of the night would see Do river a stronger two-pair than Wong and with that, it was all over. When the last hand was dealt, Do let out a scream of celebration and was greeted by a small rail of friends as Vietnam now has a new poker champion.
