Triple Whammy for J.C. Tran

Things are headed south for J.C. Tran
Things are headed south for J.C. Tran
Three recent hands have all ended with J.C. Tran on the wrong side of the fence, lowering his chip count all the way to 10,000. First, he called a bet of 2,700 from Ivan Tan on the turn of a board showing {A-Diamonds} {5-Clubs} {9-Hearts} {3-Spades}. The river was the {K-Spades}, bringing a quick check from both players. Tan showed {A-Spades} {J-Clubs} to take down the pot.

The two tangled again when Tan raised to 1,300 preflop and Tran called. Tan checked the {7-Diamonds} {Q-Hearts} {7-Hearts} flop to Tran, who took a stab at the pot by firing out a bet of 2,000. Tan check-raised him to 7,000 (a sign, perhaps?), inducing a quick fold.

In the third and final hand, Tran was the preflop aggressor with a raise to 1,300. His nemesis this time was Mike "Timex" McDonald, who made the call in late position. The flop was {Q-Diamonds} {2-Spades} {K-Diamonds}. Tran fired out a pot-sized continuation bet that McDonald called. He fired again for 5,000 when the turn fell {K-Hearts}, and again McDonald called. The river was the {A-Spades}, bringing a quick check from each player.

"I missed," said Tran. McDonald showed {A-Diamonds} {Q-Spades} for two pair, aces and kings, and a winning hand.
