That’s a wrap here on Day 1a of the 2012 Australia New Zealand Poker Tour Queenstown Snowfest Main Event. A huge day saw 51 players pony up the NZ$3,000 entry fee, creating the largest single-day field for this event in its history. This amount of participants sets us on target to reach a field of around 150 players, easily surpassing the 127 entries of last year’s event.

Plenty of the best players from around the region started the day, but as is standard in poker tournaments, not all players can survive. Some of those who hit the rail during the day include Michael Egan, Tristan Bain, Minh Nguyen, Daniel Neilson and Jackson Zheng.

Managing to do better than the above players were the likes of Richard Lancaster, David Wonson and 2011 ANZPT Sydney champion, Michael Kanaan as they will make their way to Day 2 with plenty of chips to scare. While these players had a successful day, it was David Allan who managed to prosper and emerge as the chip leader. A great afternoon for Allan, perhaps better known for his online screen name "dave798111", will see him start Day 2 with 98,200 in chips, an amount which will give him a good chance of making a run at the title.

Also surviving the day and still in contention include Cole Swannack, Ryan Hong, Ryan Boswell and World Series of Poker gold bracelet winner, Andrew Hinrichsen. All in all, it was 27 players who bagged up some chips and will return for Friday’s Day 2. Make sure to join us from 12:30 PM tomorrow as Day 1b will take centre stage. Until then, poker fans!
