The Shootout Format With Dominik Nitsche
With the 2017 World Series of Poker nearing the end of its first week of play, we've already seen a wide variety of tournament formats on display — a great opportunity for poker players to play different types of tournaments and variants in order to challenge themselves to improve their games.
Among the first week's highlights was Event #3: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em Shootout in which Upeshka De Silva won three straight tables to beat out the 369-player field and win the bracelet and a $229,923 first prize.
There's one more shootout event a little later on the schedule, a $1,500 buy-in tournament (Event #43).
During Event #3, we caught up with 888 Ambassador Dominik Nitsche who offered some thoughts regarding shootouts, talking a little strategy and listing some of the positives offered by the format.
Though talking primarily about shootouts, Nitsche's starts out with some broader advice when he mentions how players sometimes adjust too much to particular formats.
"There's no reason... it's still poker," Nitsche points out.
That said, shootouts give players a chance to play more hands, engage in more short-handed play, and as Nitsche notes not have to worry about ICM considerations until the final table. Take a look:
