Jonathan Little's Weekly Poker Hand: How to Play Made Hands and Drawing Hands

Poker pro and coach Jonathan Little has been producing a wide variety of strategy content for poker players for some time, including authoring multiple books and sharing videos and articles on his website and elsewhere, much of which is free to players of all levels seeking to improve their games.

Little started his popular "Weekly Poker Hand" series on YouTube several years ago, and recently he decided to switch up the format to begin featuring footage from live small- and medium-stakes cash games.

In the episode shown below, Little once again analyzes a hand played in a $5/$10 no-limit hold'em cash game (with a $20 straddle) played at Stones Gambling Hall in California.

In this hand, five players end up calling a preflop raise, building a pot of $385 before the 310J flop arrives to give one of them a flush draw and a gutshot straight draw. Meanwhile another player has top pair and needs to decide how best to proceed with his hand versus four opponents.

The ensuing discussion covers both how to play made hands and how to play strong drawing hands, with Little ultimately analyzing the two players' decisions on the flop, turn, and river.

Some of the concepts discussed in the hand analysis include:

  • starting hand selection
  • multi-way strategy
  • bet sizing
  • pot odds
  • value betting
