South Point Hotel, Casino, and Spa, is one of the newer Las Vegas casinos having opened its doors on December 22, 2005. Michael Gaughan owns and operates the casino, which serves as the primary sponsor of Brendan Gaughan’s NASCAR car.
Gaughan spent $500 million building South Point, which was called South Coast back then. Builder broke ground in 2003, and the casino opened two years later boasting 662 rooms. Construction and expansions continued for the next few years, including a $95 million expansion that added more hotel rooms, more convention space, and five more food and beverage outlets. There are now 2,163 rooms and 80,000 square feet of gaming space.
Guests have plenty of entertainment options at South Point, including a 4,400 seat equestrian arena, a 400 seat showroom, and a 300 seat race and sportsbook. There is a 64 lane bowling center, another 60 lane bowling plaza, which regularly hosts the United States Bowling Congress annual National Championships.
