Biography

Born April 6, 1982, in Colorado, Steve O’Dwyer got into poker after seeing Chris Moneymaker win the 2003 World Series of Poker (WSOP). A Bachelor of Science in Communications graduate from East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, O’Dwyer worked briefly in broadcasting before making a career for himself in the poker world.

O’Dwyer, who is friends with fellow poker pros Scott Seiver and Isaac Haxton, has more than $45.2 million in lifetime earnings dating back to 2007, according to The Hendon Mob. That includes a career-best of$2,157,000, his reward for a third-place finish in the May 2024 edition of the $200,000 Triton Poker Super High Roller Series Montenegro.

He also has eight other seven-figure scores, including one worth $1,872,580, which he collected after winning the 2015 PokerStars PCA Super High Roller. In November 2014, O'Dwyer scooped $1,811,638 when he won an Asia Pacific Poker Tour Macau Super High Roller and the equivalent of $1,604,972 when he became the 2013 PokerStars EPT Grand Final Main Event champion.

Although O'Dwyer has an EPT Main Event title and dozens of EPT and World Poker Tour (WPT) cashes, a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet still eludes him. This is mainly because O'Dwyer tends to avoid the annual WSOP, preferring to grind online when most of his fellow professionals are in Las Vegas.

O'Dwyer is a regular in the biggest buy-in live events globally, but he remains true to his roots. In November 2024, he bought into a €5 No-Limit Hold'em tournament at the Dublin City University Poker Society for a special Punters vs. Pros tournament. In true O'Dwyer style, he outlasted 99 opponents and won the event!
