Biography

John Wasnock is an American poker player who made it to the final table of the 2025 WSOP Main Event and finished runner-up for $6 million.

“I’ve had a pretty good run the last year," Wasnock told PokerNews. "I live in Seattle. There’s not a lot of big action, you know, tournaments. So I play tournaments when I come down. I’ve been playing some of the smaller events in the World Series the last ten years or so. I played in the Main Event once, ten years ago. That was kind of a bucket list.”

John Wasnock Background

Wasnock, who is from North Bend, Washington, had his first tournament cash in 2014 with a fourth-place finish at the Venetian Las Vegas for $15,577.

After his Main Event run, Wasnock was able to retire.

“Since the Main, I subsequently retired. I always wanted to travel around and play more poker. Before, I was only able to travel maybe once or twice a year to WSOP events, something like that,” he told PokerNews in an interview. “I've been trying to travel around a bit. Did a couple of circuit events, a couple of WPT events. Here in Las Vegas, I played the Venetian Classic and a couple of Poker Masters, that sort of thing. So I’ve been pretty active and playing. But, yeah, I’ve been wanting to kind of validate my run as not just a one-hit wonder. I’ve been fairly successful with some fairly deep runs in the travel I’ve done since.”

John Wasnock Poker History

With just $143,000 in live earnings heading into the WSOP Main Event, and just two WSOP cashes to his name, his 2025 WSOP Main Event run was a traditional Cinderella story. Before his $6 million prize, he had just two WSOP cashes to his name, the best of which came in 2024 when he finished 29th in the $600 Ultra Stack for $11,140.

Wasnock followed up his Main Event run by winning a WSOP Circuit ring on WSOP.com, the first time he had ever played on the client.

“I had a day off on Friday, and I was just in my room, and I was looking around to see if there were any sort of one-day tournaments live," he said. "I didn’t really find anything that interested me. I live in Washington, where I can’t really play online much. Just started to look around and think, maybe there is a WSOP bracelet event or a circuit event that I can play on the WSOP app."

Wasnock ended 2025 with a trip to the Bahamas for WSOP Paradise, where he cashed in the $25,000 Super Main Event for $55,000.
