Brek Schutten is an American poker player with over $5.2 million in live poker tournament earnings. Schutten does play a lot of poker, but he is also an ICU nurse in Michigan.
Schutten's first recorded live result came in October 2016, when he cashed in the $1,100 MSPT Michigan Main Event for $5,393. A year later, Schutten reached the final table of the $1,675 WSOPC Hammond Main Event, falling in seventh for $52,187.
In March 2019, Schutten helped himself to his first six-figure score, collecting $135,214 for a third-place finish in the $1,700 WSOPC Hammond Main Event. Schutten cashed three times at the 2019 WSOP, including a min-cash in the $10,000 Main Event.
April 2021 saw Schutten announce himself on a global stage by taking down the $3,500 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Main Event. Schutten came out on top of a 2,482-strong crowd and padded his bankroll with a cool $1,261,095.
Armed with a larger bankroll and renewed confidence, Schutten began frequenting high-stakes events in the United States with some decent success, including a $219,300 score for winning the $15,300 PGT Wynn High Rollers event in March 2022.
A fifth-place finish in the $25,000 NLHE High Roller at the 2022 WSOP earned Schutten $323,730. He followed that up with a runner-up finish in the $50,000 buy-in High Roller, a finish worth $820,808.
In June 2024, Schutten became a WSOP bracelet winner after coming out on top in the $25,000 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller 6-Handed event for $1,450,641.
