Biography

David "ODB" Baker is an American professional poker playing who hails from Connecticut but reside in Arizona. The "ODB" stands for "Original David Baker" and helps differentiate him from David "Bakes" Baker, another American poker pro.

Baker discovered poker while studying at college, and began playing pot-limit Omaha games at casinos in New Orleans in the mid-1990s. By 2004, Baker was playing poker professionally despite having earned a finance degree from Auburn University.

Although Baker started his poker career as a cash game player, it is tournament poker where he excels. His first recorded live in-the-money finish came in January 2004, with his first victory following two years later in February 2006.

Baker cashed five times at the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP), his first WSOP cashes. He came close to bagging a bracelet at the 2008 WSOP, but ultimately settled for third-place in a $2,000 buy-in Limit Hold'em event for $78,624.

Another third-place finish at the 2010 WSOP, in a $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em event, saw Baker take home a career-best $206,813. That remained Baker's biggest prize for less than a month because he navigated his way to a 17th-place finish in the 2010 WSOP Main Event for $396,967.

At the 2012 WSOP, "ODB" clinched his first bracelet after taking down the $2,500 8-Game for $271,312.

Baker secured a new career-high score after finishing third in the 2015 edition of the $50,000 The Players Championship, a result that added $514,926 to his bankroll.

His victory in the $10,000 WPT Championship Main Event at the Los Angeles Poker Classic came with $1,015,000 in prize money, a sum that remains Baker's best single result to date. That impressive sum came four months before Baker won his second bracelet in a $1,500 Limit Hold'em event at the 2019 WSOP.

Bracelet number three came at the 2023 WSOP in a $1,500 Razz event, where Baker was down to only two big bets before staging an epic comeback to become a three-time WSOP champion.

To date, Baker has more than $6.8 million in live tournament cashes.
