00Bernard introduces John Cynn, 2018 WSOP Main Event champion.
54John Cynn joins the show.
35John discusses if he ever thought he would make the WSOP Main Event final table, after finishing in 11th place in the 2016 WSOP Main Event. “(I) never thought I would make it back to the same spot… To think that I would actually be at the final table or win the Main Event, those are dreams, not something that you actually think is going to happen.”
30John elaborates on the 2016 pictures of him slumping down on the floor.
45John recalls, “I kept thinking about how cool it would have been to plan for the (WSOP) final table, to get all of my family and friends there.”
13Bernard asks John what his thought process is to get deep in such large-field tournaments such as 2016 and 2018 WSOP Main Events.
53John answers, “I try not to game plan a certain way… I try to sit down at the table, get a feel of what is going on and take everything hand by hand. And that doesn’t change whether it’s Day 1 or Day 9 or 10.”
35John describes his mindset during the early levels of the WSOP Main Event. “I more watch out for the good players (than the weak players). So, I definitely try to not get into too much trouble with the really good players.”
15John discusses how he got started playing poker and how he was introduced to the game by his pastor.
35John graduated from Indiana University, majoring in Finance and Supply Chain Management and got a job as an analyst after graduating.
02Bernard asks John if he considers himself more of a cash or tournament player. “Depends on what you are asking for. As far as profession goes, definitely I have a cash game background. As far as enjoyment goes, I love tournaments. There’s nothing that compares to the feeling of running deep in a tournament and realizing that I might have a shot to win.”
20John discusses playing mixed games for a time and having fun playing them.

37John discusses having the prior experience during the 2016 WSOP Main Event. “Having that experience just helped me with my own game, helped me to stay on top of what I was doing… I just felt really comfortable. I even surprised myself at how comfortable I was during the whole entire thing.”
37John explains why he played in only a couple of events prior to the 2018 WSOP Main Event: Cash games back in Los Angeles were so good at the time.
23John discusses how he felt heading into the Main Event. “Every year, it’s the same. I get so excited and pumped up for the Main Event. It’s such a fun tournament.”
