The 1,765 players who turned out for the inaugural Goliath in 2011 was a substantial enough crowd in anyone’s eyes, but it pails into insignificance when you compare it to what lay in store for this amazing tournament.
Lee Rawson emerged victorious in the 2011 Goliath and turned his £120 investment into £32,705, a fantastic return we’re sure you’ll agree.
Two years later, the attendance broke through the 2,000 barrier when 2,570 players were outlasted byJake Skidmore. He netted £29,690 after a three-way deal, which may have been less than previous champions but he could brag about winning the biggest Goliath yet.
In 2014, the Goliath saw more than 4,000 players buy in; there were 4,210 entries in total. Miikka Toikka and Katie Swift locked horns heads up and it was the former who became the tournament’s champion, netting a cool £70,800 for his efforts.
The next two years saw the tournament’s attendance break through the 5,000 and 6,000 barrier. 2016 saw Vamshi Vandanapu outlast 5,230 players to scoop £62,750 while 2017 saw 6,385 entries process and Elliott Marais win a massive £85,760, which is the largest prize ever won from the Goliath.
