At least four poker rooms in the Houston area have been robbed in the past few weeks, and that has caused one major poker club to take precautions.
Texas Card House Houston, one of six TCH properties in Texas, is being reactive to an ongoing problem in the area. As such, the poker club has added an extra security guard "at all times" to protect the business and the players from what appears to be a serial robber situation.
Additionally, the popular poker club has increased security at its Dallas location, although for reasons unrelated to the Houston robberies.
What's Going on in Houston?
Texas Card House wasn't among the rooms robbed over the past month. But Texas' largest poker brand isn't taking any chances.
At least four poker rooms in the Houston area have been targeted by armed robbers over the past month. Capri Poker Club in Webster, a town about 25 miles from Houston city center, dealt with the most recent robbery about a week ago. More than a dozen armed robbers reportedly entered the 20-table card room demanding money.
Capri is seeking to move to a new location, but PokerNews has been informed it is due to the building lease ending and not related to the recent incident. The move is expected to happen around the first of the year.
Spades Poker House (Baytown, TX) and Empire Poker Club are among the other rooms that have also been targeted. PokerNews reached out to Capri Poker Club via Facebook and they informed us that video surveillance from the robbery at Capri appears to show a matching suspect from the robbery at Spades. No suspects have been arrested in connection to any of the Houston area poker robberies, but police in all involved jurisdictions appear to have identified at least one suspect.
The Houston poker community dealt with a similar situation last year when a crew of armed robbers were caught following players home from Lucky J Social Club.
