button in SafariCards & Clubs Invitational Will Mix Poker With Golf in South Florida
A unique competition combining poker and golf will debut in Palm Beach, Florida, early next year with the Cards & Clubs Invitational (CCI).
The CCI, which was created by longtime poker industry figure Tom Wheaton, will "bring together a deliberately curated group of executives, important clients, strategic partners, golf talent, poker personalities, creators and other invited guests for two nights of competition, hospitality and relationship-building," according to a press release.
The event is scheduled to take place Jan. 11-13, 2027 at PGA National Resort in South Florida, a globally acclaimed course known for the "Bear Trap" three-hole stretch.
Mixing Poker and Golf
The unique competition will feature four-person teams that compete in an 18-hole scramble golf format before shifting to an indoor tag team poker tournament, a format made famous at festivals like the World Series of Poker (WSOP). The combined results will determine the overall Cards & Clubs team champion and winner of the Cards & Clubs Cup.
“Golf and poker both give people a reason to compete, but they also give people time together,” Wheaton said in a written statement.
More than just combining the two games, the Cards & Clubs is about "bringing the right people together, giving them a great experience and creating the kind of time where relationships and organic content can develop," Wheaton added.
The Faded Spade and Above the Felt founder later shared on X that he has "been working on this quietly for a while" and said "it’s pretty cool to finally have the ... Invitational out publicly."
While the lineup for the event has yet to be set, it is "being built around a carefully curated inaugural field of Founding Teams, business leaders, clients, partners, golf and poker personalities, creators and other invited guests."
Poker and golf are two games that have long been connected. Late poker godfather Doyle Brunson was known for his wild golf prop bets, while poker superstar Daniel Negreanu also has a reputation for being competitive on the fairway.
