888poker ChampionChip Games

The 888poker ChampionChip Games got off to a flying start on March 16, with the first five of 36 events bursting into action and crowning their champions. Affordable buy-ins but big prizes were the order of the day as 888poker's players flocked to the tables and attempted to kick the series off in style.

Four of the events on the ChampionChip Games schedule have a $55 buy-in, the most expensive tournaments this year. Once such high roller, the $30,000 guaranteed Opening Event High Roller PKO saw 594 players buy in. South Americans, Brazilians in particular, dominated the event, with five of the eight finalists hailing from the region, three of whom were Samba stars.

888poker ambassadors Ian "Simpioni" Simpson and Leo "KaizenStyle" Jokura were among the entrants but couldn't find a foothold in this event and will have to wait to become a ChampionChip Games champion.

Five finalists saw their 888poker account balance swell by more than $1,300. Brazil's "WHATaDREAM" wasn't one of them. They crashed out in eighth place, having only captured $18 worth of progressive bounties, meaning they took home $250 for their efforts.

"lucasdmz," also of Brazil, fell in seventh for $677 before "Drakyano" saw their tournament end in a sixth-place finish worth $608.

The remaining players each nabbed a four-figure score. First, from their home in Mexico, "dipandglide" came unstuck in fifth for $1,330, with "Paulada85" receiving $1,557 immediately after bowing out in fourth.

Heads-up was reached after Germany's "fiascotal" was sent packing in third, a finish good for $2,057. The heads-up players, "Edson_brito" and "Emogirl19," locked in $2,459 and $2,457, leaving the final two progressive bounties to play for. "Edson_brito" had captured more than their fair share of scalps and added that of "Emogirl19" to their haul. The Brazilian champion saw their regular prize pool prize bolstered by an impressive $2,324 from the bounty prize pool for a total prize worth $4,784. The runner-up headed into the night with $3,117 reasons to be happy.
