In a recent podcast, Alex Scott, President of WPT Global, outlined his vision for the platform's future while addressing key challenges facing the online poker industry.

Joined by John Andress, head of security solutions at A5 Labs, the duo provided insights to Mobius Poker into how WPT Global is enhancing player experience, ensuring game integrity, and differentiating itself in a competitive market.

Combating Cheating with Advanced Technology

One of the central topics was WPT Global’s approach to maintaining a fair and secure gaming environment. Scott and Andress highlighted the platform’s use of artificial intelligence (AI) and advanced gameplay modeling to detect and prevent cheating, including bots and collusion. These tools enable the security team to quickly identify suspicious activity while leveraging insights from former professional players to review edge cases.

“We’re leveraging AI and advanced gameplay modeling to stay ahead of cheaters and ensure a fair playing field for everyone," said Scott. "The integrity of the game is our top priority. If players don’t trust the platform, they won’t stay—simple as that.”

WPT Global has also implemented a whistleblower program, paying up to $300,000 in some cases to individuals who report cheating with concrete evidence.

Enhancing the Experience for Recreational Players

"It’s critical that players feel they have a real shot at success"

Scott also emphasized the importance of creating a balanced ecosystem that caters to recreational players while maintaining competitive opportunities for skilled professionals. By limiting the number of experts at a table, the platform ensures recreational players are not overwhelmed, fostering a more enjoyable and sustainable environment.

“It’s critical that players feel they have a real shot at success,” Scott said. “If they’re always outmatched, the fun of the game disappears, and so does their desire to play.”

Rethinking Rake and Player Rewards

The podcast also addressed the often-controversial topic of rake—fees taken from each hand or tournament entry. Scott explained WPT Global’s approach to reinvesting rake revenue strategically, offering promotions and incentives to attract and retain players. The platform aims to provide a transparent and balanced system that benefits the broader poker ecosystem.

"Transparency builds trust," reiterated Scott. "Players need to know we’re working for them, whether it’s through better rewards or stronger security measures.”

Long-Term Vision

Looking ahead, Scott and his team are committed to leveraging technology and player feedback to grow WPT Global’s community. Their focus remains on maintaining integrity, improving gameplay, and ensuring a level playing field for all users.

“WPT Global is more than just a poker site—it’s a community,” Scott concluded. “Our mission is to keep evolving the game and delivering a unique, fair, and fun experience for everyone.”
