We're almost at the halfway stage of WCOOP Bootcamp — a two-week warm-up for players who are looking to win their way into the World Championship of Online Poker next month.

One of those players looking to the Bootcamp to aid his preparation is PokerStars Team Pro Lasse Jagd Lauritsen aka Wistern who, after streaming over 200 hours of SCOOP action earlier this year, is getting ready for another big grind in the most prestigious online festival in all of online poker

Warm Up With WCOOP Bootcamp

There aren't many seasons in poker, with live and online festivals being played all year round, but Wistern says that there's something about the timing of WCOOP. With summer holidays and Vegas trips in the rearview mirror, it's now time to get back to business at the online tables.

Wistern says WCOOP Bootcamp comes at the perfect time.

"But WCOOP Bootcamp is perfect timing and it's a great idea"

"Over the summer, there's so little [poker] happening — people are on vacation, we've just had the Euros and now we have the Olympics. So there's obviously a little bit of a break. But WCOOP Bootcamp is perfect timing and it's a great idea.

"It's good to just have the opportunity to warm up and get going again and get the feeling for the game. And the fact it's all low buy-ins means you have the opportunity to get some games in before WCOOP and really get that warm-up feeling from your play."

Just like athletes, poker players need to practice, study and work to improve their game, and with a major festival such as WCOOP this practice takes on renewed importance for an online grinder like Wistern.

"I know myself that feeling when I come back after being off for a couple of weeks. It just takes a couple of days to really hit it and get it going again. So having WCOOP Bootcamp, getting that feeling of getting back into it. And if you're not having a good first week, you still have plenty of time to look at your leeks.

"It just helps you realize where you're at right now, how you're feeling in your game and helping you get ready for the real big thing."

Getting Ready for WCOOP

And that "real big thing" gets underway in exactly on e month's time, with 25 days of WCOOP action on PokerStars. Unsurprisingly, Wistern will be in the thick of the action and he says he can't wait to get started.

"I am an online grinder, and I love it. I live for these moments. SCOOP and WCOOP — they're the Main Events for me. I'm gonna be in the Bootcamp to warm it up and get really ready, and then WCOOP is gonna be a hard grind for me.

"I did 200 hours of streaming during SCOOP, and you're going to see me doing just as much during WCOOP."

The prestige of WCOOP isn't lost on Wistern, who took down a maiden SCOOP title in 2023, and is now eyeing up a WCOOP trophy to sit on his shelf.

"WCOOP Bootcamp is the perfect place to put that work in"

"WCOOP is the World Championship. SCOOP is right up there next to it, but it's the World Championship for a reason. You want to win that trophy. You want to get one of those really good results.

"I won a SCOOP last year, and as much as I wanted to win another SCOOP title this year, WCOOP is on my mind. I'm preparing the best I can. WCOOP Bootcamp is the perfect place to put that work in."
