Less than one week ago, two well-known poker pros said their car was broken into outside a Las Vegas restaurant, and a substantial amount of money was stolen.

Days later and both players — Mo Nuwwarah and Josh Reichard — are deep together in the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event, perhaps the result of some good karma (and of course skill).

Can Poker Players Run Deep Together in the Main Event?

As Nuwwarah told PokerNews last week, he'd just arrived in Las Vegas to compete in the Main Event when Reichard picked him up at the airport. The two went to a local Italian restaurant in the Chinatown district to have lunch. During the meal, a restaurant employee informed them Reichard's car had been broken into.

They immediately ran outside, and that is when they discovered Reichard's car window had been busted out and personal items, including a bag full of cash, had been stolen.

While the situation was unfortunate, luck (and skill) has been on their side ever since. Entering Day 5 of poker's most prestigious tournament, the duo each bagged just over 2.5 million chips with 500 players remaining, which put them near the chip lead.

On Thursday, they began the day seated at the same table inside the Horseshoe Events Center, both still hoping to become world champion and win the $10 million first place prize. The money bubble burst early on Day 4, and all players who bagged Wednesday night left the casino guaranteed to win at least $35,000.

Nuwwarah and Reichard are close friends and fellow Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) champions. But on this day, they are enemies at the table, both trying to win life-changing money and be crowned the 2024 poker world champion.

Reichard, who won the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown in May, has $4.2 million in live tournament cashes, according to The Hendon Mob. Nuwwarah, a Nebraska native, will have over $600,000 in cashes after the Main Event concludes.
