Hey, everyone. I'm Kyle Anderson, PokerNews ambassador and Ontario resident. Here is an update on everything that's happened in the poker world in Ontario in the last month.

In the online poker world, the GGPoker WSOP.ca is currently hosting the popular Bounty Hunters Series. It began back on July 7 and will run through July 29. Ontario’s #1 Bounty Series, which offers $1,000,000 in GTDs, will culminate with a $105 buy-in, $150K GTD Mystery Bounty Main Event on the last day of the series. The top bounty in that one? A hefty $15,000!

Over at PokerStars.ca, they’re hosting their Path to 2024 NAPT, which will take in Las Vegas at Resorts World from November 1-10. You can secure your spot for as little as 50 cents via steps on PokerStars!

Ontario Live Poker

Casino Niagara is hosting its Summer Series Main Event that takes place August 6-9. It is a $1,000 buy-in and Casino Niagara is offering satellites from as little as $60 to qualify.

Ontario WSOP News

At the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP), Poker Hall of Famer Daniel Negreanu, who hails from Toronto, won the $50,000 Poker Players Championship for $1.1 million and his seventh career gold bracelet. It was his first WSOP bracelet in 11 years!

For Toronto-born poker player Mike Leah, otherwise known as “GoLeafsGoEh”, had a very successful under-the-radar summer where he has cash for over $400,000 at the 2024 WSOP! Among his dozen cashes were second in Event #45: $10,000 H.O.R.S.E. Championship for $266,658, third in Event #85: $1,000 FLIP & GO NLH Presented by GGPoker for $74,062, and fifth in Event #90: $1,500 PLO for $63,321.

In the 2024 WSOP Event #75: $1,000 Tag Team, Jimmy Setna and Jason James, who are roommates in Mississauga, Ontario, came out on top of a 1,437-team field to split a $190,910 first-place prize and each win a WSOP gold bracelet.

Ontario Poker News July Update: Last ON Player Standing in WSOP Main Event 101

Both players have been playing for over ten years and have only grown to love the game more. In the mid-2010s, the pair started taking poker seriously and made a career through tournament and cash game winnings. “I always had a lot of belief,” shared James, adding, “I knew it was gonna happen for Jimmy as well.”

In the record-breaking 2024 WSOP Main Event, which attracted 10,112 players, Jason Sagle out of Niagara Falls was the last Ontario player, as well as overall Canadian, standing in the field. He made it all the way to the final table and bowed out in fourth place for a smooth $3,000,000 payday!

Kyle Anderson often streams his successes on Global Poker, goes by the screen name "KAA17" and aims to "help grow the game of poker to be fun and inclusive for everyone." Anderson's favorite experience so far was running deep in an online tournament, where he turned a freeroll into a $15,488 payday.
