WSOP Main Event

With a record-breaking turnout, the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event has solidified its place in history as the poker tournament with the largest prize pool ever.

After the final tally of entries was confirmed at 10,112 players, besting last year's record of 10,043, the prize pool was announced as $94,041,600.

Only the top 1,517 finishers in Poker's World Championship will see a portion of that figure, with those who make the final table banking at least $1,000,000, while a min-cash is worth $15,000. With a new payout structure at the 2024 WSOP, most min-cashes during the series have been worth twice the buy-in, but an exception was made in the Main Event for tax purposes.

Another Eight-Figure First Place Prize

So, with another record-breaking Main Event — what exactly will the winner take home?

For the sixth time, the Main Event champion will take home an eight-figure score, $10,000,000 to be precise. The runner-up will receive $6,000,000.

Daniel Weinman's $12,100,000 in 2023 remains the biggest first-place payout, while Jamie Gold (2006 - $12,000,000), Espen Jorstad (2022 - $10,000,000), Hossein Ensan (2019 - $10,000,000) and Martin Jacobson (2014 - $10,000,000) were the others to receive life-changing windfalls after becoming Poker's World Champion.

There is less of a discrepancy between first and second place this year. In 2023, the runner-up took home $6,500,000, a difference of $5,600,000 compared to the champion (Weinman). As PokerNews addressed in a Muck piece last summer, some poker fans felt the payout structure needed to be changed, and the WSOP listened to its customers. There was no bickering in the Horseshoe events center when the tournament director announced the payouts on Monday.

When Will the WSOP Main Event Bubble Burst?

As the WSOP Main Event continues to unfold, the anticipation surrounding the money bubble is growing. The question on everyone's lips is, "When will the money bubble burst?"

Currently, players are battling it out on Day 2d. Once this day concludes, the remaining contenders will combine with the survivors of Days 2abc to form the field for Day 3.
