Sweden's "gurra0" Grabs First PokerStars Sunday Million Season Title

The 18th anniversary edition of the PokerStars Sunday Million is only weeks away, and PokerStars is getting into the party mood with its Sunday Million Season. The first three episodes took place over the weekend, including a $1 million guaranteed progressive knockout.
The $109 Sunday Million PKO attracted 10,793 entrants, resulting in a $1,079,300 prize pool. Several Team PokerStars members were in the crowd, but none of them navigated their way into the top 1,711 places where the regular prize pool was dished out. Parker "tonkaaaa" Talbot came the closest to cashing, busting in 1,841th place, having banked a $68.75 bounty payment.
Day 1 ended with only 81 players in the hunt for the title, with Belarusian "AcidValue" leading the way. "AcidValue" couldn't hold onto the chip lead and ultimately busted in 15th place for a combined score worth $5,394.

All but one of the nine finalists turned their $109 investment—$318 in the case of "twonior" and "Flyawayfraca," who re-entered on Day 1—into a five-figure haul. Bulgaria's "JokerTilt," the ninth-place finisher, still walked away with $8,103 despite missing out on five figures.
"twonior" ($11,302), "kurt_vonegut" ($13,939), and "Troll4You" ($16,148) exited stage left to leave only five players in contention for the first Sunday Million Season title. Those five became four when "Flyawayfraca" ($24,499) bowed out, and then three with the elimination of Ukraine's "Neocrotex_UA" ($34,653).
Brazil's "Paulinhomrp" came unstuck in third ($44,175), leaving "triceratops333" of Ireland heads-up against "gurra0" of Sweden. Each player secured over $56,100 from the regular prize pool, with both locking in over $12,000 worth of bounty payments too.
"gurra0" emerged victoriously with a $76,668 haul to show for their efforts, while "triceratops333" took home $68,911 for their runner-up finish.
Other Sunday Million Season Results From Week 1
The first week of the Sunday Million Season, one of the most prestigious online poker tournaments in the calendar, included not only the $1 million guaranteed Sunday Million PKO but also six other events.
Dan "NukeTheFish!" Wilson, the 2016 Irish Open champion, triumphed in the $320 NLHE PKO Season Kick-Off for $28,429, with "Fillipinho" taking down the $33 buy-in edition of the same event for $17,943.
"lukebadass" was the other player to claim a five-figure payout on Week 1, banking $21,745 after outlasting 2,526 opponents in the $55 buy-in NLHE The Prologue.

At 5:05 p.m. GMT, an $11 buy-in Super Sunday event has a cool $150,000 guaranteed, while the $109 Sunday Million stays as a PKO event and retains its $1 million guaranteed prize pool.
