Soukha Kachittavong Has Dominated PokerStars Summer Series and He's Looking for More
There's no official Player of the Series award for the PokerStars Summer Series at Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia, but if there were, there'd be a runaway winner — Soukha Kachittavong.
In Event #1, a $550 buy-in tournament, the Rhode Island poker pro took seventh place out of 1,020 players for $13,800. It was a great run, but he'd perform even better in Event #2, which cost $1,100 to enter, by taking down the title for $105,407, beating out 714 entrants.
But, Wait, There's More
There are only three tournaments during the series, the first PokerStars live event in quite some time, and entering the series finale, Kachittavong was the only player to reach the final table in the first two events, and he didn't stop there.
On Sunday, Day 2 of the $2,200 buy-in Event #3, which attracted 448 entrants, Kachittavong again reached the final table, securing the undisputed unofficial Player of the Series award. There won't be any trophy for it or an extra prize, but his performance throughout the series deserves recognition.
At the time of publishing, there were eight players remaining in the final tournament of the PokerStars Summer Series. Kachittavong was among the biggest stacks in his quest to win a second title and the $172,390 prize that goes with it. Jamie Gold, the 2006 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event champion, was also still standing, albeit with a small-ish stack.
Kachittavong's heater at Philly Live! the past few weeks is no fluke. According to The Hendon Mob, he has over $1.8 million in live tournament cashes and would crack the $2 million mark with a first place finish on Sunday.
