The Festival Online at 888poker

The Festival Online concluded at 888poker on August 1, with the crowning of the $200,000 guaranteed Main Event champion. The $250 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em tournament saw a total of 1,016 888poker players buy in over the course of several Day 1s, creating a $238,760 prize pool as a result. That huge pot meant 888poker paid out almost $1.2 million across The Festival, and the Main Event's champion was the biggest winner of the series.

Only 149 of the 1,016 starters made it through to Day 2, and those returning players were whittled to the final eight. "GoodStoryDMG" of Belarus sat down at the final table as the chip leader before going all the way and becoming The Festival Online Main Event champion, an accolade that came with $41,305, the largest single haul of the entire series.

"AUTISPOSTI" only had three big blinds in their stack when the final table action commenced, so it was no surprise when the Malta-based grinder became the first casualty of the final day's play. They made a move with ace-jack for their tiny stack but lost to the ten-nine of "GoodStoryDMG," who hit a ten on the river from the big blind.

Lithuania's "MyNumber7" was the next to fall, ironically, in seventh. "MyNumber7" lost all but a couple of big blinds with pocket nines against the aces of "LegitNit" and they busted as part of a double elimination a couple of hands later.

"MyNumber7" min-raised with king-queen of hearts, leaving 0.2 big blinds behind. "Mukogna" three-bet all-in for 16 big blinds from the small blind with king-jack, and "LegitNit" called the shove with ace-nine. "MyNumber7" put their remaining chips into the pot. An ace on the all-spade flop sent the two Lithuanians to the rail.

Each of the remaining five players was now guaranteed five-figure scores, and it was "_UpToNoG00d_" who collected $11,818 when a clash with "LegitNit" did not go to plan. "LegitNit" shoved from the small blind with king-queen, and "_UpToNoG00d_" called off their three big blinds with queen-jack from the big blind. A king on the turn left "_UpToNoG00d_" drawing dead, and the final table with only four players.

Those four became three with the untimely demise of Sweden's Jerry "Perrymejsen" Odeen. "GoodStoryDMG" min-raised on the button with pocket eights, and Odeen defended their big blind with six-four of diamonds The three-jack-six flop saw Odeen initially check before check-raising all-in for 9.1 big blinds when "GoodStoryDMG" continued. "GoodStoryDMG" called, and their pocket eights remained best, sending the Swede to the rail with $16,068 reasons to be happy with their performance.

Heads-up was set almost immediately after that bust-out, when "LegitNit" got their chips in good with ace-queen of diamonds versus the dominated ace-eight of hearts in the hand of "Luiz1958" of Brazil. The Brazilian paired their eight on the flop, and it proved enough to reduce The Festival Online Main Event to only two potential champions.

It took only 35 minutes to reach the one-on-one battle but another hour for the winner to be decided. "GoodStoryDMG" held an 88 big blind to 57 big blind advantage over "Luiz1958" and they never relinquished that chip lead.

The final hand saw "Luiz1958" min-raised with king-ten, and "GoodStoryDMG" call with jack-eight suited. "GoodStoryDMG" checked on the jack-four-nine flop before check-raising a one-quarter pot continuation bet, which "Luiz1958" called. An eight on the turn improved "GoodStoryDMG" to two pair, and they bet half-pot, "Luiz1958" called. A king on the river was greeted with a bet from "GoodStoryDMG" that was enough to set their opponent all-in, and "Luiz1958" called off their last 12.6 big blinds having caught the king on the river. Game over for "Luiz1958" and game well and truly on for the champion, "GoodStoryDMG."
