Patrice Brandt Becomes the Latest PokerStars Sunday Million Champion ($79,828)
Table Of Contents
Patrice "pAtcAsh83" Brandt's decision to either miss the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP) or at least delay flying out to Las Vegas was vindicated when he came out on top of a 9,114-strong field in the latest edition of the PokerStars Sunday Million.
Brandt helped himself to the $59,217, plus $20,611 from the progressive bounty prize pool, for a total score worth $79,828. Perhaps now he will jet off to "Sin City" and get involved in the $10,000 Main Event.

9 | Isaev Vlad | Mexico | $873 | $5,141 | $6,014 |
The 9,114 entrants meant there was a substantial overlay on the $1 million guarantee, which is something of a rarity in the Sunday Million. Only 79 of those starters made it through to Day 2, with a mere nine of those reaching the final table.
Mexico-based "Isaev Vlad" crashed out in ninth for a $6,014 score. Finding themselves short-stack and looking down at ace-queen, "Isaev Vlad" had the perfect spot to commit the last of their chips, or so they thought. "ukr46" raised to 5,500,000 from under the gun with ace-six of hearts, "Isaev Vlad" called all-in for slightly less, "ratajpoker" called in the small blind with king-queen of diamonds. Both active players checked down the flop and turn, with "ukr46" improving to a seven-high straight on the river; "ratajpoker" folded to a river bet.

Everyone else, with bounties included, walked away with five-figure hauls. "sunnym4nn" of Germany was the next player out of the door, despite being the chip leader going into eight-handed play. "sunnym4nn" four-bet jammed for 24 effective big blinds with king-queen clubs only for "kj631" to wake up with aces. The aces held, and "sunny4mnn" became the second shortest stack.
The very next hand, "sunnym4nn" and "kj631" battled again, and with almost the same hands. "sunnym4nn" held king-queen of hearts, and "kj631" had pocket rockets in back-to-back hands. After flopping a pair of kings, "sunnym4nn" eventually found a fold on the river but was left with fewer than ten big blinds.
"kj631" then got their hands on the rest of "sunnym4nn"'s stack when the latter jammed with pocket queens, "kj631" reshoved with pocket jacks, and the board gifted "sunnym4nn" a set of queens but a rivered straight for "kj631"
The recent $10,300 Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) Main Event champion, Felipe "lipe piv" Boianovsky, was the next player to find themselves void of chips. The Brazilian was own to less than 2.5 big binds, and he called them off with queen-nine of clubs after "LLEVENOMA" opened with pocket jacks. "Pablos701" called from the big blind, but folded to a flop continuation-bet. Those jacks held, and Boianovsky was gone.
The final six became five when "ukr46" of Romania came unstuck in a cruel hand. "kj631" min-raised to 7,000,000 with jack-ten of clubs, "Pablos701" responded with a 48,623,680 all-in three bet from the cutoff, "ukr46" called all-in for 37,485,582, and "kj631" folded. "ukr46" turned over a pair of kings, but "Pablos701" has the bullets! The five community cards were void of drama, and "ukr46" was relieved of their stack.
Poland's "ratajpoker" fell in fifth at the hands of "LLEVENOMA." "ratajpoker" open-shoved for 11 big blinds with ace-trey of hearts, and "LLEVENOMA" called with pocket kings. "LLEVENOMA" flopped top set, and "ratajpoker" was drawing dead on the turn.
"LLEVENOMA" crashed by the wayside in fourth despite winning "ratajpoker"'s chips. First, they got a little too frisky in a battle of the blinds with Brandt, which cost them around half of their stack. They then open-shoved for 16 big blinds from the small blind with king-nine of diamonds, only to lose a coinflip against Brandt's pocket sevens.
Heads-up was set when "kj631" fell by the wayside in third place, a finish good for a cool $47,157. Brandt opened 12,000,000 with queen-six from the small blind, and "kj631" called in the big blind with jack-ten of spades. Brandt continued for 4,800,000 on the queen-ace-deuce flop, and "kj631" called. Brandt check-called an 11,583,000 bet on the trey of spades turn, which put two spades out there. An offsuit jack completed the board, Brandt checked, "kj631" jammed for 53,037,626, and Brandt tank-called to bust the all-in player.

That hand gave Brandt a massive 382,240,738 to 73,459,262 chip advantage over "Pablos701," and it didn't take him too long to finish the job.
"Pablos701" won the first pot, which was a large one, but then it was one-way traffic in Brandt's favor for a while. "Pablos701" began clawing his way back into contention but Brandt's run-good shone through in the end.
The final hand saw "Pablos701" min-raise to 10,000,000, and Brandt call. Brandt check-caled a 5,724,000 continuation bet on the trey-deuce-queen flop with two diamonds. An offsuit ace on the turn was check-called by Brandt to the tune of 27,750,800. An offsuit six on the river saw Brandt check again, "Pablos701" overbet jammed for 145,027,724, and Brandt called. "Pablos701" had a legitimate hand in ace-ten, but Brandt had backed into two pair with his ace-six. Game over.
