Tournament Poker returns to Houston Oct. 28 – Nov. 15 as the Prime Social Poker Open takes place – featuring the largest guarantee in Texas poker history with its $1.5 Million Guaranteed $1,700 Main Event.
Not many poker rooms outside Las Vegas take on the challenge of running a series at the same time as the World Series of Poker, but Prime Social Tournament Director Justin Hammer said Houston is a perfect place to do so.
“I want those who are lucky enough to get to travel to Vegas for weeks at a time to continue to do so, I wish them the best of luck as they do,” said Hammer. “I also want those who can’t go to know that they have options, and don’t have to sacrifice value in order to do so.”
Prime Social Poker Open Schedule
The three-weekend-long series has a major event each weekend, opening with a $300,000 Guaranteed $360 Kickoff, a $500,000 Guaranteed $600 DeepStack the middle weekend, and wrapping up with the $1,500,000 Guaranteed Main Event.
“Prime has led the way for the expansion of tournament poker in Texas, and continue to do so with this record-breaking series,’ said Hammer.
Players have the option of playing $240 Main Event Mega Satellites to earn an entry to the $1.5 Million Guarantee, there’s a total of 75 seats guaranteed via satellites running throughout the Prime Poker Open. Satellite players also have a special bonus offered for the first time in Texas.
The Prime Social Poker Open Player of the Series competition also has a Satellite Player of the Series race. There’s $25,000 added by the house, with $20k going to the Player of the Series race paying the top 10 overall ($7,500 to the winner), an additional $5,000 added for the Satellite series race paying the top 3, winner earning $3,000.
Mixed Games Galore
Mixed games are a focal point in this series, ranging from a $100,000 Guaranteed PLO Championship, to HORSE, Dealer’s Choice, PLO8 and what’s sure to be a wild and fun event, a Double Bomb Pot PLO. Buy-ins range from $240-$580 for most of the events in the 16-tournament series, something Hammer sees as a major emphasis for Prime Social and its players.
“I’m one of those players that would prefer having 100% of myself in a smaller buy-in than a small percentage in a big buy-in. I can win the same or more and I like my chances much better,” said Hammer.
Halloween is the first Sunday of the series, and Hammer – a tournament director who is known to believe in the #MakePokerFunAgain mantra – has a few tricks up his sleeve. There’s a $25,000 Guaranteed $360 Boo-nty set for Halloween afternoon, knock a player out and you get to Trick-or-Treating from the Prime Social candy bowl. Best costume worn to the club on Halloween earns a complimentary entry in to a $240 satellite for the $1.5 million Main Event.
Players traveling to Houston for the Prime Poker Open have the option of staying at the tournament hotel Aloft Houston by the Galleria, with great restaurants and shopping within walking distance of the hotel. A tournament player group rate is available starting at $89 a night and can be found on the Prime Social tournament information page.
