Brett Angell

Day 1C of the 2021 Goliath Online was the busiest flight yet with 591 Grosvenor Poker players hitting the virtual felt. Only 51 of those starters punched their Day 2 tickets, and none of them finished with more chips than Brett Angell.

Angell is a familiar face to anyone who frequents the Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT). The Middlesbrough man is a GUKPT champion, having triumphed in the 2019 edition of the GUKPT Leeds Main Event. That result saw Angell reel in a £20,912 score, a prize that he will blow out of the water if he becomes the 2021 Goliath Online champion.

Angell took full advantage of the re-entry format and fired four bullets. The fourth bullet resulted in Angell bagging up enough chips for third place overall.

"ALFalmighty" came close to breaking through the 700,000 chip barrier on Day 1C, but ultimately ended their flight with 699,099. "roseroyal93" (606,258) was the only other Day 1C entrant to progress with more than 600,000 chips.

Slightly further down the chip counts, you find Liverpool’s John Adderley, who returns to the fray armed with 484,526 chips. Adderley knows his way around a poker tournament table, so is one to watch when play resumes.

Others who navigated their way through 17 levels of intense poker action include Andrew Sheard (345,856), Michael Rettie (320,000), Nicholas Swann (298,344), Paul Vas Nunes (289,949), Nicholas Savins (288,744), Jonathan Gill (105,896), and Team Grosvenor’s Andy Hills (75,723).
