GGMasters Player of the Year

We’re entering the final quarter of 2020 and the race for the $500,000 GGPoker sponsorship package is well and truly on.

The top 10 performers in the weekly GGMasters over the course of the year secure some fantastic prizes. Those finishing in second through 10th receive free tickets to every GGMasters tournament in 2021. The winner, however, walks away with a GG sponsorship package worth up to $500,000.

Brazil’s Ricardo “Sambalele” Nascimento is still the man to catch in this Player of the Year race. Nascimento has topped the leaderboard since the beginning of the year and doesn’t look to be relinquishing his grip on top spot. The Brazilian has 1,903.80 points, a lead of 60 points from Canada’s “Luka Donkbet”.

Some of the chasing pack are new names from our previous GGMasters POY update. Germany’s “scrabbleking” soared into third-place after winning the August 16 edition for a massive $90,735. That result means the German is only 69 points away from first-place.

“JustaMortal” finds themselves in fifth place courtesy of triumphing in the August 30 edition of the GGMasters. The Costa Rican outlasted 4,826-opponents to turn their $150 into $94,840.

The GGMasters takes place at GGPoker every Sunday at 6:00 p.m. CEST and it has grown into one of the must-play online events. $150 is the buy-in for the GGMasters, unless you win your way in for a fraction of the cost via the many satellites running around the clock.

The GGMasters is a unique beast because there are no rebuys or re-entries permitted, you’re gone once you bust. It’s great to see such an impressive freezeout tournament on the online poker tournament schedule, especially because it comes with a $500,000 guaranteed prize pool.

You earn Player of the Year leaderboard points each time you finish in the money places of the GGMasters. A points multiplier comes into place for reaching the final table and for winning that week’s event. With four months left of 2020, there’s still plenty of time to get in on the action and see if you can reel in Nascimento from his lofty position.
