WSOP at GGPoker

The $10,000 Heads Up No Limit Hold’em Championship takes place at GGPoker on August 8 and, as you’d expect, some of the world’s best poker players are among the 128 entrants. Scrolling down the star-studded entry list reveals a name that you wouldn’t ordinarily expect to find despite the fact he claims to have won millions of dollars from poker.

Dan Bilzerian, yes the Dan Bilzerian has bought into the WSOP #54: $10,000 Heads Up No Limit Hold’em Championship at GGPoker. The larger than life character is in the hunt for a coveted World Series of Poker bracelet.

Bilzerian has made several outlandish claims about his poker prowess in the past but now we get to see if he’s the real deal. The man with more than 32.2 million Instagram followers has repeatedly claimed that he’s won millions of dollars from private super high stakes cash games, although nobody has ever been able to substantiate this because those game, by their very nature, are extremely private.

This time last year, Bilzerian made some comments that were ridiculed by the poker community. The self-proclaimed “King of Instagram” was a star guest on the True Geordie Podcast where he said he likes people to believe he’s “a rich idiot” so he can take their money at the tables. Bizarrely, Bilzerian stated he honestly believes he was the pioneer for a Loose-Aggressive (LAG) style of poker!

He may have won millions playing against well-heeled gamblers, he may not have. What we do know is his only recorded live tournament cash came in 2009 when he finished 180th in the WSOP Main Event for $36,626.

Bilzerian Goes Toe-to-Toe With Some of Poker’s Best

The $10,000 Heads-Up event Bilzerian has entered at GGPoker is ridiculously stacked. It reached its 128-player capacity a few days ago, meaning there’s $1,241,600 to play for. This will be shared among the top 16 finishers, with a min-cash weighing in at $24,832 and the champion taking home $360,480 and a gold bracelet. The winner also receives a $15,000 package for the yet-to-be announced WSOP Europe festival.

The random draw won’t happen until just before the 8:00 p.m. CEST start time but poker fans around the world can’t wait to see who Bilzerian finds himself up against.

Such luminaries as Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier, Fedor Holz, and Daniel Negreanu have all secured a seat. So have 15-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, Dario Sammartino, Erik Seidel, and a rare appearance from Mike “Timex” McDonald.
