This weekend some of the world’s best poker players will come together online to compete in the IFMP Nations Cup.

The Nations Cup is the premier event on the Match Poker calendar and, due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, will be played across the IFMP’s specially-designed digital platform by 12 participating countries from their own homes. After a rigorous testing process, Cisco Webex was chosen as the stand out technology provider to enable high quality and secure web conferencing match play for the duration of the Nations Cup tournament.

What is Match Poker?

Match Poker itself is a version of Texas hold’em in which teams are split onto different tables with one player from each team in each of the different seat positions. All players start each hand with the same amount of chips and hands are dealt onto their digital devices with the same cards being dealt to all tables. Each team's combined chips are compared after each hand and points allocated accordingly before the stacks are reset and the next hand begins.

“We are living in extraordinary times that require extraordinary responses,” commented IFMP President Patrick Nally. “We must adapt and respond to the global pandemic by hosting the Nations Cup in a manner that allows all team members, from around the world, to play from the safety and security of their own homes."
